What Is A Bad Breath Detector?
I frequently am sent mail from readers asking me if bad breath detectors truly work. Many ask what I think of them.
Do you know about bad breath detectors? Do you know what they do?
The most common bad breath detectors are designed as hand held devices designed for you to breathe into and then they measure the odor of your breath. Then usually come with some sort of a light display that indicate the amount of breath odor measured.
Of course they differ by model --- you will, generally, get assorted colored lights that suggest different levels of breath odor. Frequently a red light means BAD - a green light indicates GOOD, and there could easily even be yellow and orange lights representing borderline problems.
Exactly how do they work? Don't ask me -- I have no idea. I imagine I am like most people and don't really care how they work. You just care that they work.
How much do these little things cost? Typically in the region of $20. The more expensive models might go for as high as $60, or more, but by and large those may also be used as a breathalyzer to measure alcohol on the breath.
Are they a decent investment?
That depends upon you. If $20 won't break you, and you will feel more comfortable using a bad breath detector - heck yes. Why not?
Then again, it is rather simple to perform your own breath test by breathing onto the your hand, preferably the back of your hand and give a sniff. Another way is to sniff your wrist after you lightly lick it.
You should know if your breath needs attention after taking these two tests. The first should reveal if you have the most common form of bad breath, the second test is designed to pinpoint bad breath caused by saliva, which is not as common.
Just as important, the way I see it, is to estimate the preventative steps you are taking to stop foul breath. You must understand your basic bad breath cause.
Many I speak to are not aware of it, mass produced commercial mouth rinse formulas contain alcohol which is very bad!
This isn't good since alcohol dries the mouth, and dry mouth means a lack of healthy saliva which is necessary for fresh breath. Alcohol is not an effective bad breath remedy.
